Appalachian Mountain Banjo - basic model - £500

A banjo built in the style of the the old mountain guys, made famous by the likes of Stanley Hicks. Usually made from reclaimed timber with friction, fiddle style tuners. Robust yet lightweight these banjos have a truly unique sound... guaranteed to take you back to those misty mountains.

Gourd banjo - basic model - £550

My version of some of the earliest known banjos, made by the African slaves - a hybrid of the African akontig and the European guitar... this is where it all began. The basic model includes a standard fretless neck, canteen gourd (when available) calf skin vellum, simple peg head, friction tuners, Nylgut strings... please note that all my gourds are grown in the U.K. - some are even grown by me. These banjos have an amazing tone and deep resonance - tuned low with gut or Nylgut strings.

Grain Measure / Tack Head - basic model - starting from £650

Another early type of banjo - antebellum era... The next stage in the evolution of the banjo before they became mass produced. The basic model includes a standard fretless neck, calf skin vellum, simple peg head, friction tuners, Nylgut strings. The pot will vary in price dependant on size and type. Please note that the pot / body of both the gourd and grain measure banjos can at times be irregular in both shape and size. This is due to the natural or antique nature of the material. When you commission one of these instruments i will show you the selection available for you to choose from.

Minstrel Banjo - basic model - starting from £800

Similar to the above banjo but with head tensioning. Bracket shoes, nuts hooks and tension hoop are all designed and made in house using a small local foundry for all the cast bronze parts.
