Appalachian mountain banjo

 

The body and pot of this banjo have been made from an old 1920s piano that was past Its best. The main timber is Poplar and I've retained the original walnut veneer. Ebony nut, calf skin head. Naive mountain style carving.

 

All of my mountain banjos have been built using the Stanley Hicks instructions in Foxfire 3, but with some modifications to geometry in order to improve playability and tone
