Appalachian mountain banjo

Lefty mountain banjo made from an old 1930s bed headboard.  Solid mahogany (or something related) covered in a gorgeous walnut burl veneer. The headboard had some cool beading around the edge which i incorporated into the heal and the tailpiece. A lovelly looking and sounding banjo.

All of my mountain banjos have been built using the Stanley Hicks instructions in Foxfire 3, but with some modifications to geometry in order to improve playability and tone.
